Las Vandelays© was formed in the year 2000 in the hamlet of Hoboken, NJ. The nucleus of the group was created a year earlier when Stacy and David met at an Open-Mike night at the Liquid Lounge. After they opened Mike, they neatly sewed him up again and The Vandelays were formed. First, as a duet and later adding others occasionally. Sometimes they could persuade Edno into accompanying them with percussion. Other times, John (conga-man) would storm the stage and join in. The next year, Big Paul Avocado, (a.k.a. Paulie Guacamole) came upon the scene with his big guitar, and it was decided that the three of them should play bossa nova, though nobody knows why. Soon afterwards, Paul bought a purple electric bass guitar and BANG! Las Vandelays was born.

Nowadays, Las Vandelays performs as a duet, a trio, or a quartet, depending on the venue. Tom joins us on percussion, and occasionally, our other percussionist/friend, Matt, fills in. Elizabeth kindly lends her talent as a bassist/singer with the band.

Their repertoire includes bossa nova, samba, rhumba, reggae, cha-cha, and an occasional Nancy Sinatra cover. They are available, I'm told, for shows, parties, bar-mitzvahs and weddings.
